Righteous Brothers

 

미국 국적의 1940년 생인 빌 메들리와 친구인 바비 해트필드로 구성된 듀오 가수 이다. Righteous Brothers가 부른 "You've lost that loving feeling"이 영화 "Top Gun" 사운드트랙에 나왔었고,  유명한 "Unchained Melody"는The Ghost(사랑과 영혼)에 삽입되어 큰 인기를 얻었었다. 라이쳐스 브라더스는 1960년대를 황금기로 활동한 가수라 할수 있겠다.당시에 찬반양론이 엇갈리기도 했던 백인이 부르는 흑인음악 즉, 블루 아이드 소울이란 쟝르를 탄생시킨 장본인들이기도 하다.

두사람은 1962년부터 함께 노래를 불렀는데, 1963년 5월 "Little Latin Lupe Lu"란 첫 싱글로 단번에 스타덤에 올랐고, 1963년 11월 첫 데뷔 앨범인 "Right Now"를 발표하며 성공적인 활동에 돌입하게 된다.중후한 바리톤 음성의 매력적인 저음역 소유자인 빌 메들리와 부르럽게 감싸주는 바비의 보컬이 조화를 이룬 라이쳐스 브라더스의 음악은 백인들뿐 아니라 흑인들의 영역까지 침투해 들어가는 인종을 뛰어넘는 폭넓은 사랑을 받게 되었다.

이들이 1965년 7월에 발표했던 "Unchainde Melody"는 20여년이 지난 후 영화 "사랑과 영혼"의 주제곡으로 쓰이며 다시 한번 인기를 얻었는데,  1965년 발표 당시에도 높은 인기를 얻었던 노래 이다.  1955년 레스 박스터에 의해 1위, 1965년 라이터스 브라더즈에 의해 4위에 기록되었으며 최근 영화에 삽입되면서 1990년 10월 빌보드 차트 1위를 차지하였다. Sam(페트릭 스위지)과 Moly(데미무어)의 죽음을 초월하는 사랑은 진정 unchained,구속을 떨치고 일어나는 자유로운 사랑임에 분명하다. Unchained Melody가 흐르는 장면에서 Demi Moore와 Patrick Swayze의 산뜻한 연기는 음악을 더욱 돋보이게 한다.
