추억의 영화음악을 찾아서 <13>

<로미오와 쥴리엣>의 주제곡

쉑스피어의 영원한 비극로망스, "로미오와 쥴리엣"을 이태리의 Franco Zeffirelli가 감독하여 1968년에 개봉한 영화로 이작품을 영화화한 것들 중에 가장 아름다운 영화라고 말한다. 무명의 배우들이였던 애띄고 아름다운 Leonard Whiting과 Olivia Hussey가 주역을 맡았다. 이영화의 음악은 Nino Rota가 맡았었고 아름다운 "Love Theme"을 작곡하였다. 원곡 (What Is A Youth?)의 가사는 Eugene Walter가 작사하였다. 영화가 개봉된후 이 theme song은 Henry Mancini가 기악 편곡을 하여 크게 인기를 얻었고 "A Time For Us"라는 곡명으로 Larry Kusik과 Eddie Snyder가 작사한것이 Johnny Mathis, Andy Williams등 많은 가수에 의하여 레코딩되어 유명해 졌으며, "Ai Giochi Addio"라는 곡명으로 Elsa Morante가 작사한것이 Luciano Pavarotti, Natasha Marsh등의 오페라 가수가 레코딩하기도 하여 인기를 얻었다.
