추억의 영화음악을 찾아서 <19>

American Film Institute가 미국영화 100주년 기념으로 뽑은 100편의 영화중에 제3등을 차지한 영화 "대부"는 Francis Coppola 감독의 작품이다. 1972년에 제1부가 발표되었고 제2부는 1974년에 그리고 제3부는 1990년에 발표되었다. Mario Puzo의 소설을 영화화한 것으로 보통사람들은 그저 말로만 들어오던 마피아의 내면의 세계를 들추어내면서 '사람'의 이야기로 우리에게 다가와 선풍을 일으킨 영화이다. 말론 브란도를 중심으로 쟁쟁한 연기자들이 열연을 하였고 특히 그당시 거의 무명의 Al Pacino를 정상급으로 올려놓은 영화이다.

이 영화의 음악은 영화음악의 대가 이태리 Nino Rota가 작곡하였다. 여기의 "Love Theme" 은 아카데미의 "original song"상 수상 후보로 올랐었지만 1958년에 개봉되었던 이태리 영화
"Fortunella"에 이미 삽입되었기 때문에 후보에서 탈락되었다. 하지만 이 곡은 영화 개봉당시 Larry Kusik의 작사를 붙인 "Speak Softly Love"로 Andy Williams가 레코딩하여 열광을 받았고 계속 '사랑의 노래' 중 최정상을 유지하는 곡이다. 특히 영화 sound track에서는 맨돌린 연주로 우리를 매혹하였다. 이 "Love Theme"은 또한 베르디의 "La Forza del Destino"서곡에 나오는 테마를 연상시키기도 한다.
