Stein Song 은 원래 제목이 "Umaine Stein Song" 이며, 미국 북동부의 메인 주립대학(University of Maine 줄여서 Umaine)에서 일종의 응원가로 오랫동안 불려온 노래입니다.
가사는 작가이자 저널리스트인 Lincoln Colcord 가, 곡은 Colcord 의 룸메이트였던 Adelbert Sprague가 썼답니다. 나중에 이 대학에 재학중이던 E.A. Fenstad 가 편곡하여 대학 아이스하키팀인 "Maine black Bears"의 응원가로 사용했던
"Vallee-Colcord-Fenstad" 버전이 대학 응원가로 널리 퍼졌답니다. 지금은 졸업식이나 결혼식에도 불리는 보편적인 축하노래가 되었지요.
참고로 Stein이란 맥주잔을 의미하며, 1947년 단편영화 "Let's Sing A College Song"에도 나온답니다.
